Waste acceptance and recovery is carefully controlled. Our technical local consultant, AA Environmental Limited, assist Sheehan in approving materials for treatment and verifying the resulting aggregate is suitable for re-sale. This provides a quality assured output and 99% recovery rates.


Now for the science…..


The water treatment system designed by Ground Remediation Systems removes volatile organic contamination, such as diesel range organics, benzene type organics and red list substances from the soil washing plant recirculating water system. This prevents a buildup of contaminants in the wash water thus allowing it to be reused. The benefits are reduced environmental impact, elimination of cross contamination to other "clean" materials being processed and substantial savings in the use of raw make up water.
Contaminated process water is drawn from the soil washing plant at a controlled rate by a dedicated abstraction pump. This pump routes the water through two high efficiency continuous pressure filters where particulates are removed. From the pressure filters, the now clarified water, passes through a purpose designed GAC (granular activated carbon) absorber. Like the particulate filters this absorber is also of the vertical continuous pressure type design. Both residence time and superficial water velocity through the carbon bed have been selected to provide extremely efficient adsorption of organic contaminants. The use of high grade water phase granular activated carbon ensures maximum bed life and consistency of performance. The decontaminated and treated water is recycled back to the inlet of the soil washing process.
Periodically the pressure filters are backwashed to remove accumulated particulate matter. The solids laden dirty backwash water is pumped to the soil washing plant's settling chamber and subsequently to existing plate and frame high pressure leaf filters.
